What you get from it
A short, light game for your memory. You hold a few places in mind for a few seconds, and it’s quietly satisfying when one comes back just in time.
Quick to pick up, and a good one for a minute between other things.
It’s the one game in Rather that runs on memory rather than logic, so it balances out a day of grids.
Rules
Every piece appears on exactly two cards. Turn two cards: if they match, they stay up. If not, they turn back. Match every pair to finish.
The pieces are Pattern’s shapes: a circle, square or triangle, in ink, coral or blue, solid, outline or half filled.
How to play in Rather
Tap two cards to turn them. A mismatch stays up for a moment, then turns back by itself. Tapping a third card turns it back at once.
There is no Undo: a card you turned has been seen.
Matched pairs stay face up on a soft cell, so you always see what’s left.
Where to start
Work in order. Turn the cards in reading order, row by row, so it’s easier to remember where you’ve been.
Before you turn a second card, think: have I seen this piece? If yes, go for its partner. If not, turn a card you haven’t seen yet, so even a miss tells you something.
The pieces are Pattern’s: shape, colour and fill. Saying one to yourself, “blue half circle”, helps it stick.
Use corners and edges as anchors. A piece in a corner is easier to remember than one in the middle.
Don’t rush the second card. When the first is new to you, the second is your chance to learn one more place.
When you know where both cards of a pair are, take them before opening new ones. A sure match clears the board and your head.
When you’re stuck
Tap Hint. With one card up, it turns its partner: “Its pair is here.” Otherwise it turns a matching pair for you: “These two match.”
Hints take one pair at a time, so the rest is still yours to find.
Sizes
- Easy 3×4 6 pairs.
- Medium 4×4 8 pairs.
- Hard 4×5 10 pairs.
Questions
